We Will Miss You Ray Ray

The Baltimore Ravens won Superbowl 47.
With a score of 34 – 31. It was as many people saw a tale of two halfs. In the first half the game was dominated by the Ravens on both offense and defense. Then on the opening kickoff of the 2nd half the Ravens ran it back for a touchdown. I don’t know if it was too much power by the Ravens or Beonces half time performance but something caused a powersurge that knocked out half the stadiums lighting. Then after a half hour delay the lights came back on in the stadium and for the 49ers as they ralleyed to with in 2 points.
But the classic of the night and what actually decided the game came down to the will of Ray Lewis and his defense. The 49ers had the ball 1st and goal inside the seven yard line. It was not as much the talent of Ray Lewis that stopped them but the will and determination that he imposed on this defense.
This goal line stance capped a 17 season hall of fame career that has had many ups and downs. It was a classic Ray Ray moment.
There has been much said about this man who gave his life to this game he loved so much. Some talk about his episode that happened late at night outside a nightclub in Atlanta many years ago. Well the law that we put so much trust into has worked and the system says that was settled. I was not there to know what happened so as my momma always taught me I will not judge or gossip about something I know nothing about. But I do put a lot of faith in the criminal justice system in our country. If they say the debt is paid then that is good enough for me. I look down on the people who do judge and gossip about something they know very little about, especially the media whos job is to bring us the truth.
What I do know is this man brought a lot to the stage on Sunday afternoon for many years. For that I say Thank You Ray Ray, we will truely miss you.

Carolina Panthers Buckle to Giants Replacements

He said it. That is right. Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers said they did not get the job done offensively against the Giants in last night’s Thursday night football game. Cam Newton, breakout former quarterback of the Auburn Tigers and now second year QB for the Carolina Panthers gives credit to the Giants. Cam Newton’s statts for the game included completion 16 out of 30 passes for 242 yards. No touchdowns. Three interceptions

Giants offensive performance by Manning 27 completions of 35 attempts for a total of 288 yards and one touchdown. NY Giants receiver, Ramses Barden, in his first career start, caught 9 passes for 138 yard. Ramses has been injured   but after last night’s performance Giants fans will be hoping he will stay healthy so he can see more playing time this season.

Everyone stepped up, with the next man attitude, replacements did their jobs and the final score of 36 to 7 was a solid victory. It was a great game for Giants fans.

This game review was sponsored by Sports Fan Treasures, where you can shop online for NFL blankets for all teams and have them delivered to your door in time for the big game.  With the first day of Fall coming soon, NFL fans will be headed to the stadium to watch their favorite teams. NFL Blankets Offer More Than Warmth

The other day I was listening to my cousin Frances share some memories of her dad. Her dad, Algin, raised cattle and loved the springtime because that is when the new calves were born. He loved watching the new calves when they grew strong enough to rip, run and play.  He could watch they play for hours and their antics always made him laugh until his side hurt. Even when it was more difficult for him to get around, when springtime came, he always asked if someone would  take him outside to see the new calves.

One Christmas, Frances was watching one of the early home shopping shows on television. They were showcasing  Officially Licensed NFL blankets made of a plush  fabric, that was both soft and warm.    Frances called in to order a couple of blankets for her dad’s Christmas gifts. She remembered how cold and damp it gets during the springtime in Mississippi when her dad liked to spend time outdoors watching the calves, and thought the blankets would be the perfect thing to keep her dad warm while watching football.

As she was telling me the story, I imagined how her dad would be sitting in his favorite chair and she would cover him up with one of those warm NFL blankets. I imagined him watching those baby calves play and coming inside to a warm blanket and maybe a cup of hot chocolate.  I imagined that on cold winter nights, she had that extra NFL blanket on the foot of his bed.

As Frances told the story of  how much her dad loved the NFL blankets  she had bought for him long ago, her face lit up, and we both smiled as we remembered her dad. I did tear up thinking about how much this only daughter loved her dad and what wonderful memories she has of her dad using this thoughtful gift.

Who knew a blanket could  do so much more than keep you warm?  Blankets also represent the sentiment of  taking care of the ones you love the most.

Just What Is Up With the Jacksonville Jaguars

It’s a sad fact that the Jacksonville Jaguars just haven’t had a lot of odds in their favor lately.  They finished 2009 at 7-9 and odds are they aren’t going to be doing much better in 2010. Here are some of the predictions for Jacksonville in the 2010 season, which will probably mark the end of the current coach’s time there unless they see huge success this year.

David Garrard is still quarterback for the team this season.  But will he stay?  Probably not.  He’s got one last shot and this is it.  If he can’t get his game together, Luke McCown, the current backup, is going to get a chance to fill the seat.  Now the Jaguars do have good rushing attacks in 2010, and lots of good offensive players who will hopefully be able to work with Garrard’s lack of skill.  It’s not exactly a great or extraordinary offensive lineup, but if the odds are in favor of this team, they can get a few wins under their belt this year.

So how about defense?  Some new players are joining the Jaguars defense this year.  Derrick Harvey is going to have to get his game together and make some changes this season.  If he doesn’t, the defense of the team is going to fail again.  There are some improvements such as linebacker Kirk Morrison, who has lots of skill and experience under his belt and brings good strength to the team.  Where they fail is in the safety and free safety spots, though their starting corners are looking a bit more promising.

So what will really happen to the Jaguars this year?  In terms of AFC South, they aren’t going to win.  They might finish with a few wins but they will still have more losses to beat them.  They aren’t going to top the Colts or the Texans.  It’s slimly possible that they’ll see a few wins, but unlikely – and more probably that Jack Del Rio and David Garrard are both going to be history after this season.

But who knows?  Maybe they will surprise us.  Still, betting wise, it isn’t a good idea to place too much strength on the Jaguars.  They have not shown promising results in the last couple seasons and given their record of lousy coaching and quarterbacking, they’re just going to keep making the same mistakes.

Sorry guys, this isn’t a strong team.  Place your bets elsewhere on teams with strong leadership and better players.  When it comes down to it, this team has just not got the potential to get past its hurdles.  There are some good players, but they’re held back by the team’s complete lack of leadership and a good quarterback.  Sad to say, but some quarterbacks are just failures, and Garrard’s proven to be that way so far. There’s really no reason to think he’s going to push beyond that this year, but maybe next season when the laggards are gone the team will finally be able to reach some measure of success.

What Ails The Minnesota Vikings?

Three team member of the Vikings are absent from the training camp for the 2010 conference games and have not, as however attended, because of ailments.

Percy Harvin

Percy Harvin, presently wide receiver and kick returner for the Vikings left camp extra than a week ago to attend his grandmothers funeral and hasn’t returned. Harvin, who skipped his college eligibility for football and joined the first round of the 2009 NFL draft was hired by the Vikings in April 25, 2009.

He appears to be affected by chronic migraine headaches. From the time he signed up with the team, he has missed a total of five practices/symposiums, counting his present absence from fall camp, due to his ailment. He was also absent from the play-off between the Vikings and the Cincinnati Bengals on week 14 of the 2009 conference games where the Vikings won 30-10.

There is certainly no reason to doubt that Harvin is in fact telling the truth about his condition because of his past history. Nevertheless, the length of his absence is unprecedented, leading some pundits to suspect a mixture of truth and truth.

In last year’s regular season games, he played in 15 and started 8. He likewise played two off-season games and started 1. Despite his missing numerous hours of practice, the player appears to be as much as his role.

Sidney Rice

Sidney Rice, the team’s best pass catcher has also had to put off practice because of an defective hip (or to a defective contract, as some of his pals may be inclined to think). Just what precisely is wrong with Rice hasn’t been specified by either the team management or Rice himself. He is presently ‘physically unable to perform.’

Brett Favre

The volatile Brett Favre, accurate to character, is still split as no matter whether he will or won’t play this season. The notion of retirement has been in his mind for a lengthy time. This season, he has been diagnosed by his orthopedist as needing to undergo surgery in his ankle. Apparently, it can be that or retiring from football altogether. Whichever way his choice on the matter goes, it greater get there quick so that his team can make early adjustments within the event they lose him from the lineup.

The Vikings also have two second-round NFL draftees on their team this year.

Toby Gerhart

Former Stanford running back Toby Gerhart is now with the Vikings in the same position. He is at present listed third in the depth chart behind Adrian Peterson and Albert Young. Regardless of having been a prominent Stanford player, Toby has still a great deal to learn from the Vikings’ style of playing. He is, on the other hand, making terrific progress and the coaching staff is really pleased with his performance. Even so, he apparently requirements to practice on his surprise attack tactics and on timing them precisely when the enemy’s defenses are low.

Chris Cook

Chris Cook, formerly with the Virginia Cavaliers, is now with the Vikings as prospective cornerback. Like Gerhart, he is a second round NFL draftee. He is also third inside the depth chart following Antoine Winfield and Benny Sapp. He has been excelling throughout team practices and like Gerhart, is being trained to turn into a well-rounded football pro.

2010 Super Bowl Commercial Highlights

Super Bowl XLV Preview

Two of the most storied programs in professional football are set to meet in the most expensive sporting venue in the world.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers have nine Super Bowl trophies between them and will face each other Sunday in Super Bowl XLV.

Tough they’ll play indoors at the $1 billion Cowboys Stadium, the winter storm that’s blanketed north Texas is fitting for two cold-weather teams.

The Steelers (12-4) beat the Arizona Cardinals two years ago for their sixth Super Bowl all-time and their second since 2006.

Pittsburgh, buoyed by their typical lock-down defense and strong-armed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, beat the New York Jets and division rival Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs.

The Packers (10-6) beat Michael Vick and the Eagles, the NFC’s top-ranked Atlanta Falcons and the Bears to earn their first trip to the Super Bowl since 1997.

Sunday’s matchup pits two of the league’s most dynamic quarterbacks in Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers and Roethlisberger. Both signal-callers are adept at avoiding the pass rush and making plays outside the pocket.

Rodgers completes 65.7 percent of his passes and finished the regular season with 3,922 passing yards and 28 touchdowns.

Roethlisberger returned from a league-mandated, four-game suspension to finish with 3,200 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Roethlisberger, however, will have a new center for the game after first-year player Maurkice Pouncey was ruled out of the Super Bowl due to a high ankle sprain suffered in the AFC Championship Game.

Second-year center Doug Legursky, who has played all three positions along the line and even lined up at fullback, will start in place of Pouncey.

That could be good news for Packers nose tackle B.J. Raji, who is the centerpiece of Green Bay’s 3-4 defense led by Dom Capers.

Both defenses run similar 3-4 schemes as Capers was once an assistant with Pittsburgh defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau while they worked on Bill Cowher’s staff.

The zone-blitz concept was birthed by LeBeau and used by both coordinators throughout stops with Cincinnati (LeBeau) and Carolina (Capers) and Houston (Capers).

In the 3-4, rush linebackers play a crucial part in creating pocket pressure.

For Green Bay, second-year linebacker Clay Matthews has been unstoppable at times this season with 13.5 sacks.

His Pittsburgh counterpart is 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison, who returned an interception off Kurt Warner for a 100-yard score two years ago in Pittsburgh’s last Super Bowl win.

Harrison is known as a big-hitter.

Linebacker play is a staple of both defenses, but both teams have a dynamic, Pro Bowl defensive back to keep an eye on.

Pittsburgh’s Troy Polamalu finished the regular season with seven interceptions despite missing two games to injury.

Green Bay veteran cornerback Charles Woodson had just two interceptions this season, but accounted for 92 tackles – third most on the team. He’s lined up in the slot and out wide, giving Capers the option of blitzing him and letting him play coverage. Woodson forced five fumbles this season.

Pittsburgh’s defense led the league with 14.5 points given up per game. Green Bay was just a hair behind at 15.

Two premier quarterbacks, two crushing 3-4 defenses and two of the most historic teams in league history will create what looks to be a classic Super Bowl.

That said, which quarterback has the edge. Which 3-4 defense will make the most plays?

2010 Off to a Flying Start for the Baltimore Ravens

After the first week of play, the Baltimore Ravens are looking like a winning team. While at this point of the season half the teams all have an unbeaten record, the Ravens actually look like a team that is for real this season.

In their season opener the Ravens out played their opponents and made them remember the name Baltimore, this did not come as an easy task at first. Once the team got their momentum going, they became an unstoppable force on the field. If the previous week is any indication of the season the team is looking to have, then it will be a long one for their opponents.

Unlike in the previous season, the running game has found their mojo and is on track to run past their opponents. This will be an important thing that needs to be considered when the opposition is in the film room watching film. This will be a tough part of the game for them to stop.

There is still a little bit of tweaking that the team needs to do in order to be a top passing team in the division. Speaking of the division, there is not much competition that will give the team much trouble in getting to the top of the division. The only real hurdle that they will need to contend with is the Steelers.

This season is shaping up to be one of the best that Baltimore has had since Steve Mcnair played for them. There is talk in the early part of the season that the team is looking like a Super Bowl team that will be giving the Saints a run for a repeat of their Super Bowl title. While it is still a little early to make this prediction, there is a lot of promise that the team looks to have in the coming weeks.

Baltimore will need to remain as focused as they wee in week one, Maintain this focus will many times afford the team a chance to dominate their division and as a result head to the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl.

Several off season moves allowed for the team to increase their exposure and as a result allowed for the coaching staff to make the needed adjustments that has them in the driver seat for the upcoming season, If they remain in the condition that they are in, then they have a decent chance to see tons of success and will as a result the lone team in the division.

The rest of the season will not be a cakewalk and will test the teams overall success. In the next few weeks, the team will need to remain as a cohesive unit and not lose their focus of getting to the Super Bowl and taking it all the way. If you are a fan, then this will be a season that you will be glad to see, as the team will return to the winning ways that they once had.
