This years Heisman Hunt has many great players. We hear about Mark Ingram, Tim Tebow and Colt McCoy the most because they play for the top 3 teams in the country. But there are lots of great players from a lot of great Football programs. Jimmy Clausen from Notre Dame. He is playing well every week. He plays for one of the most storied programs in the country that has been on a down swing lately. He has helped to bring them back to prominence. Kellen Moore plays for Boise State who at the time of this writing was 7-0. He is the Nation’s top-rated passer and leads the country with 21 TD passes. And he’s thrown only two interceptions. Boise State’s schedule may work against him. Lets be honest Boise State is a very good team and Kellen Moore is a very good player but to compare them to teams like Florida and Alabama that play the competition they have to play week end and week out is not a very fair comparison. If Boise State wants to be thought of with these teams they should have started working years ago when this controversy first came up to get into a better conference or do what ever it took to create the competition on their schedule until they do this there really is not a case here. Case Keenum from Houston even though they probably play a little tougher schedule than Boise is going to end up having the same problem. C.J. Spiller, Jacquizze Rodgers, Noel Devine all play for great programs but they may be too far down in the pack at this late date to be able to make up for lost ground. And lets be honest maybe the best football player in the entire bunch is Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska but can a lineman really compete in the Heisman Trophy Hunt. Well he ought to be able too if our voters were as good as they think but because they are mostly journalist which have a lot less knowledge of what the game is about than most people think. It is highly unlikely the Suh will receive the justice he deserves. So in reality it is probably going to boil down to Tebow, Ingram and McCoy who are all very excellent candidates from very excellent programs. And they really do deserve some extra points for playing the type schedules that these teams play. I would not be ashamed of any of the three.
The University of Texas Men’s Athletics
Longhorns On The Field
A powerhouse of a football program for decades. Amongst college footballs best. A member of one conference(Big 12) since 1996. A total of four national football titles in the history of the program. An unbelievable number(32) of conference championships. Only two(Ricky Williams & Earl Campbell) previous Heisman winners in school history.
For the past 72 NFL drafts, Texas has sent at least one player to the NFL. For the past 73 years, Texas is ranked as the #7 college football team. A team that has just under 850 wins & a winning percentage over 70%. There are only two other schools(Notre Dame & Michigan) that can say they have a better winning percentage than the Longhorns.
There are only two other schools that have a better winning percentage than Texas. They rank #2 in total bowl appearances & rank 8th overall in total games ever played. Since the insertion of the BCS, Texas has played in 4 BCS games. They have won 3 of those including a Rose Bowl victory for the national title back in 2005. The other two BCS wins came in 2006 & 2009 against USC & Ohio State.
There’s Cattle on the Court
A team that has been playing basketball for over 100 years. Not to be left in the shadows of the football program, the basketball program has been very good as well. A team that has made the NCAA tournament every year since 1998. 220+ wins for the past 11 seasons as well.
A team that despite all the success can’t claim a coveted national title. However, a proven track record of winning conference championships. A current man in command(Rick Barnes) that has success written all over his resume at Texas. He may have left Clemson but Texas was sure glad to get him. A coach at Texas that has won well over 70% of the games he’s coached.
He has compiled a 294-115 coaching record in 12 seasons. Texas has a well known player that currently plays in the NBA & is becoming a star. Kevin Durant is this guy & he played for Texas in 2007 but left for the NBA after only one season. He currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Longhorns On The Diamond
Definitely in the upper echelon of college baseball schools. A team that stakes its claim to having the best winning % ever. Besides that, there’s only one other team beats them in total wins too. One thing they can claim alone is having the most College World Series(CWS) appearances with 33. Another CWS feat is having the most wins with 82.
USC & Texas are the top teams in college baseball for national championships. USC holds the advantage by getting 6 more titles. A team that has many decades of conference championships. Even sending some future Hall of Fame baseball players. The most well known commodity is Roger Clemens. The current man in command on the diamond is Augie Garrido. He is coming upon his 15th season at Texas. On May 30th , 2009, Texas holds the record for having played in a marathon game. The game goes down in history as longest baseball game to ever happen on the diamond.

Big 12 Week 7 Wrap
In the Big 12 this week we had some great games. Kansas State and Bill Snyder welcomed Turner Gill into the conference with a Kansas welcome party by soundly whipping them 59-7. If Gill is going to hang around he is going to have to get some consistency within his program.
Missouri and Gary Pinkel hung a L on Coach Mike Sherman and the A&M Aggies 30-9. Tommy Tubberville after coming over from the SEC had his hands full as the grown men of Oklahoma State defeated Texas Tech 34-17. Baylor beat Colorado 31-25. Oklahoma romped and stomped on Iowa State 52-0 and last but not least. Texas said goodbye to Bo Pallini in a proper Big 12 fashion by defeating the so called #5 Nebraska Cornhuskers 20-13
With Missouri leading the northern Big12 at 6-0 followed by Kansas State and Nebraska and Oklahoma and Oklahoma State both undefeated in the Southern division, the Big 12 is going to have a really exciting 2nd half of this season.

Texas Has Big Comeback Versus Arizona State
Cameron Rupp, the Longhorns catcher, started and ended the comeback versus Arizona State. Cameron untied the game by leading off the seventh inning with a home run. That 7th run would later be all that Texas needed. Taylor Jungmann pitched 5 2/3 innings without giving up any runs. The 10-6 win over ASU allows Texas to play Friday against whoever wins between Arizona State and North Carolina.
Kevin Keyes’s RBI double and Brandon Loy’s two-run single gave their team three runs in the eighth inning to complete the comeback. The Longhorns were trailing by six runs early in the game.
Arizona State was in control of things after only the first three innings. They scored 6 runs, with 3 coming in each the 2nd and 3rd innings. The Sun Devils appeared to be running away with the game. The Longhorns battled back like everybody knew they would. The Sun Devil’s lead of 6 runs had evaporated when they came back up to bat.
Keyes had a single. Leake got hit by a pitch. Rupp hit a powerful homerun. Preston Clark and also Connor Rowe each singled. This is just a snippet of part of the Longhorns comeback.
The Longhorns was able to get out of a jam when the score was tied at 6. There were two people on base for Arizona in the 6th inning and didn’t give up any more runs. Since Texas didn’t give up any more runs, it allowed Rupp’s homerun to put the Longhorns up by 1 run.
Rupp and Jungmann were the MVPs of this game. Rupp walked twice, had two home runs, and had four RBIs. Jungmann allowed two hits. He also struck out six batters. Other people contributed to the Longhorns comeback. This will surely go into the Longhorn’s fans most memorable games of all-time.
