Tennessee Baseball

When a person talks about Tennessee Volunteers baseball, they are talking about a team that is rich in tradition and has year after year provided plenty of players into the MLB system. There are few schools that have provided as many players as has Tennessee.

The Tennessee Volunteers baseball team has consistently proven that they are a team that is for real. They have had a number of appearances in the CWS, as well as several appearances in the NCAA tournament. There have been a number of SEC titles that the team has enjoyed as a result of their success in the conference.

Many of the titles and awards that the Volunteers have enjoyed in the past, have come from such greats as Todd Helton and Chase Headly just to name a few of these players.

Chase Headly for example led the Volunteers to an SEC conference championship the last year that he played for Tennessee. Since heading to the big leagues, he has shown that he is still as good of a player then that he is now. He made an impressive run at the record that fellow Tennessee player Todd Helton had set earlier.

Headly earned 62 walks as a result of his wonderful playing skills. In addition to being a dynamo on the mound, he also made an impact at the plate when it came time to hit the ball. Headly set the single season home run record, and that mark has not been touched since then. Off the field, Headly was just as impressive.

He managed to accomplish all that he did on the field, while keeping his grades up and manageable all the time he played for Tennessee.

Todd Helton was another player that put on the orange and white, to go on to a career in the majors that was more than impressive for a rookie. His first year with the Rockies, he set records all over the place, this as a result allowed him to get noticed real quick by scouts all over the country.

These records that he set at Tennessee, would carry on into his professional career. Helton made a habit of bringing the heat to the mound when he pitched. It has been said that he was one of the toughest pitchers to face in the SEC.

This reputation was continued when it came to him being in MLB. Batters hated facing him because of his different pitches that he threw.

There is a long a proud tradition that is associated with being a Tennessee Volunteers baseball player. This program has developed quite a few players from their team, and have provided a lot of players that have went on to play in the league and become all stars in their own rite.

These players have went on to have a career that allowed  them to enter the Hall of Fame and ink their place in the records books as being a player that people will remember for a long time to come in the future.

Tennessee Volunteers 2010 Season prospects

There are still a lot of players as well as fans that are still angry with the results of the Lane Kiffen fiasco that the Tennessee Volunteers had to endure last season. This was as a result the worst season that the team could have experienced as a result of the coaching that they were led under. It has now been made apparent that Kiffen was waiting for the right time to head back to sunny California and head up the coaching at USC. This will be one of the worst mistakes that the team could have made in the past few seasons.

The loss of Eric Berry was one that was difficult for the team to deal with, in the other side of things there was a successful signing day for the team., this signing day allowed them to fill the holes that had been left with the departure of many of the players that made the Volunteers a powerhouse in the early part of 2000. Then the team fell into a hole, and as a result found themselves in a position that they were in need of a savior to bring them back up. This was supposed to be Lane Kiffen.

Lane Kiffen leaving the team for USC was considered to be one of the toughest things for the team to swallow as a result of the many tough decisions that they have had to deal with in the past few seasons. This was considered to be a tough decision for the team to have to accept and as a result left them scrambling to find a replacement for their coaching. Leadership. This as a result was a tough thing for the team to have to get past. This will be the beginning of the rebuilding that the team will have to go through.

There will need to be a leader on the field that will be able to lead the team through all sorts of trouble while on the field. This as a result means that the team is in need of a savior that is able to make the most out of the season in front of him and lead the team. The quarterback position has been a little lacking in the last few seasons and as a result this is the one area that the team will need to make sure that is addressed in the next sixty days.

If all of the elements line up, then this can be a great season for the team to experience in the next few weeks. If not though, there will be a long season ahead of the team as a result of having to get to the top of the conference and knock off Alabama as being the top team in the SEC. this is their destiny and if all is used properly, this will be the best season in a long while for the team.
