The “U” Athletics
A Heisman winner in 1986 & one in 1992. From 1985 to 1994 not a single home loss. The 58 game home winning streak was finally snapped by Washington on September 24th, 1994. A team well known for having their players drafted & drafted high in the NFL Draft. A school that has hired a few famous & Hall Of Fame coaches. Coaches not only great while in Miami but also former coaches in the NFL. One coach that even guided the Dallas Cowboys to back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 1992 & 1993. Another head coach of two NFL teams. Another former coach of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns. All coaches that are very well known to both the Miami program & also the NFL.
Miami has a bowl record of 18-15. Their in-state rivals are the Seminoles & Gators. Miami has received quite a few solid players in their school history. There is a previous bad situation hanging over the football program. This was all due to a fight between Miami & Florida International coming back in 2006. Several Miami players were not allowed to play for one game due to this incident. The most coveted award (Heisman) was awarded to two previous QB’s but a few other have awards as well. Not to be left out, some coaches have awards in their honor as well.
Two really well known head coaches in Ron Fraser & Jim Morris. Fraser lasting just under 30 years & current head coach Morris heading into his 17th season. Both coaches share a piece in history with winning two national titles each.
There have also been quite a few former Miami baseball players in MLB. Some of the current MLB players are Ryan Braun & Pat Burrell. There’s something you may not have known about the baseball program. The current baseball stadium is now named after current Yankee great Alex Rodriguez. This all due to a $3.9 million donation by him back in 2003. Not bad to see from one of the greatest baseball players in the game.
